For the few years I spent as a photographer I wanted to take part in a styled shoot, meet new photographers without having competition but, good ol' fun.
Seemed hardly possible...What people don't really know is a photographer life is a dog eat dog world (fish eating fish if you will). They don't always help each other. It's mostly cold shoulder treatment and "I can do better than you" mentality.
A year and a half ago I was burned by my photographer "mentor", the situation can remain in darkness for I don't want to relive any part of it...But, I wanted to quit. I wanted to crawl into a hole and just scream. How can the people you look most up to stab you dead in the back?
Instead of taking anything negative from the situation I decided to search to help others. Mentor people who really needed it. Meet new photographers and speak positively, learn new things, and just simply network. And this year alone I have met so many photographer friends and vendors that I wouldn't trade for gold.
Then I had an idea.
What if from a simple idea we put together a styled shoot? A shoot where it really is #CommunityOverCompetition. Vendors from all over Michigan chimed in to help & photographers from nearby areas were simply excited to get portfolio images.
And from simple brainstorming, came ideas and ideas came to life just from a Pinterest board.
